How does the brain process decision making? What happens when these systems are altered by alcohol use? Dr. Kraibich will discuss how our memory affects the way we make decisions. Dr. Kirsch will discuss how alcohol use can alter mood symptoms. These talks will show the complex interplay between attention, memory, decision making, and mood.
Ale or Lager? The science behind everyday choices
Ian Kraibich
(Associate Professor, UCLA)
How do we decide what to drink, what to eat, what to wear, where to live, etc.? I'll discuss how our decisions are impacted by our limited attention and memory, and how our brains gather and compare information over time to reach decisions. While we may not always be rational, our behavior is the result of computations that have predictable outcomes. I'll draw on research from neuroscience, psychology, economics, biology, and marketing, to shed light on this critical aspect of our lives.

Alcohol use and mood: A translational neuroscience perspective
Dylan Kirsch
(Postdoctoral Researcher, UCLA)
In this talk, I will examine mechanisms underlying the interplay between alcohol use and mood symptoms. By uncovering underlying mechanisms, my goal is to inform treatment strategies that address both addiction and co-occurring mood symptoms.
