Self-replicating solar cell to produce chemicals

Photosynthesis has been, and still is, a major contributor to equilibriums that shape the atmosphere composition we know today. For 2.5 billion years it evolved to get the best out of sunlight to power growth. In recent efforts we manipulate photosynthetic mechanisms to power the production of molecules of interest (chemicals, fuels, antioxidants, dyes, pharmaceuticals food supplements …). The domestication of photosynthesis drives the mechanism out of the evolutionary pressures it always faced and therefore poses major challenges to the scientific community.
