What is everything made of—and what happens when it collapses in on itself? From the tiniest particles to the strangest objects in the cosmos, this night takes you on a journey through the fundamental fabric of the universe. Expect mind-bending physics, cosmic mysteries, and a glimpse at the limits of what we know.
Physics Through Black Hole
Nico Yunes
(Professor of Physics at UIUC)
Black holes are among the most mysterious and captivating objects in the universe—a direct consequence of Einstein’s theory of general relativity and an unavoidable reality of nature. But what exactly are they? How do we know they exist? And what secrets might they still hold? In this talk, Prof. Yunes will guide the audience on an exciting journey through the physics of black holes, exploring their past discoveries and future mysteries.

The fundamental ingredients of our universe
Kort Beck
(PhD student in Physics at UIUC)
All the objects around us, including ourselves, are composed of molecules, and these in turn, are composed of atoms. Scientific research over the last 90 years has uncovered that the atom does not behave as a point-like object, but instead, it has a structure that comprises a nucleus formed by protons and neutrons, surrounded by electron clouds. It is natural to ask ourselves, is this the end of the story? Is everytinhg in the universe made up of atoms? In this talk, we will face and answer these questions as we discuss the nature of the fundamental ingredients of our universe.
