From the Microscopic to the Planetary

I received my Ph.D. in condensed matter physics from Tel Aviv University, then spent five years learning molecular biology as a Lewis Thomas Fellow at Princeton. Subsequently, I served as a Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Baylor College of Medicine and am now a Professor of Physics at UIUC.

Francina Dominguez is a Professor and Associate Head of the Department of Climate, Meteorology and Atmospheric Sciences (CliMAS) at the University of Illinois. Dr. Dominguez has a background in civil engineering hydrology and more than a decade as faculty in atmospheric sciences. As a hydroclimatologist, Dr. Dominguez’ work is focused on the interactions between the land and the atmosphere, and more specifically, on changes in hydrology and climate due to human modification of the land surface and greenhouse gas emissions.

Prof. Ben Hooberman is a particle physicist at the Large Hadron Collider developing new ways to see inside the Earth to accelerate the transition away from fossil fuels and address climate change.
