Ready to dive into the world of tiny but mighty cells? Discover how single-celled organisms speed past their larger counterparts, how cells in your body communicate to stay in sync, and how embryos bounce back from extreme challenges. These cutting-edge studies unlock secrets that could shape the future of bioengineering and medicine!
The Regeneration Superpower of Embryos
Marine Secchi
(Postdoctoral Scholar, Stanford University)
Imagine an embryo as a tiny, powerful builder, starting from just one cell and forming an entire body with billions of cells. Remarkably, early mouse embryos can lose 85% of their cells and still build a full body in just five days! My research studies how this boosted growth works. Join me to explore this fascinating regeneration process and its potential applications for therapies.

Micro Speedsters: How Cells Outrace Giants
Ray Chang
(Postdoctoral Scholar, Stanford University)
Some tiny single-celled organisms move at jaw-dropping speeds—outpacing much larger animals! How do they survive extreme forces and fuel their motion? Using cutting-edge imaging and simulations, I uncovered a universal speed limit, a unique cellular shock absorber, and the energy secrets of a parasite—insights that could spark new bio-inspired technologies!

Cells’ Inner Compass: Knowing Up, Down, Left & Right
Silas Boye Nissen
(Postdoctoral Scholar, Stanford University)
For the body to work properly, cells must know how to align with their neighbors. They do this by building distinct molecular clues at each end, which help them understand which way is up, down, left, and right. We are still not sure how this happens. In my research, I look at the direction of the hair on the wing of a fruit fly to see how all the hairs point toward the wing tip.
