Opioid addiction is not new in America, but it’s only recently with the worsening opioid epidemic and emergence of illicit fentanyl that medication treatments entered the public eye. Americans take daily medications for high blood pressure, heartburn, and diabetes. But when it comes to medication for opioid addiction, these treatments remain stigmatized and controversial.
